LGBTIQ Safe Counselling Space

Fellow Traveller

I understand the importance of providing a safe, non-judgemental and accepting therapeutic space in which people within the LGBTIQ community can be understood, heard and be safe. I don't assume that people from the LGBTIQ community come to counselling for challenges related to their sexual orientation and gender identity and  that the concerns that LGBTIQ clients bring to counselling are often universal to all people.

Being from the community myself I have a personal understanding of the impacts of being a part a part of a minority. The effects that can have to ones sense of their place in the world, in particular feelings of otherness and the impact that can have throughout the lifespan.

  • Coming out, inviting in, staying In & disclosure
  • Navigating non-traditional relationships in a traditional world
  • Feelings of otherness related to being part of a minority group
  • Building on your resilience
  • Violence within LGBTIQ intimate partner relationships (survivors & users of violence)

TEDX Talk: Panti Bliss

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Ireland's foremost "gender discombobulist", Panti, shares her experience of the little, everyday things that can have a huge impact on the wellbeing of gay people. Panti expresses her thoughts on navigating a world in which the simple act of holding hands can be a political statement in itself.
